Ted Elster

Ted Elster (Brecksville, OH) After graduation, Ted attended Kent State University and later married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Werner ('62).  They settled in Brecksville where they raised their two daughters, Kristy ('84) and Shelly ('85).

Most of Ted's endeavors involved electrons in some way or other.  He first worked at Ohio  Sound Systems, then Electro Kinetics Division of Standard Oil Research where he contributed to the development of a patent for a lithium battery for the electric-powered automobile.  Later at Honeywell Metrology he implemented an NIST standards instrumentation lab and installed a  state-of-the-art patient monitoring system for cardiac and intensive care units.  In the 1980's he began his twenty-year career with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Research Division.  His focus there was in biomedical research, providing support and instrumentation for the National Institutes of Health research grants.  After retiring from there, he is still puttering in electronics, providing RF and electronic engineering support at Aclara RF Systems for their line of automated meter reading products.

Starting in the 1970's Ted also ran his own businesses--Eltron Communications where he repaired and installed public safety communications equipment for local police and fire departments; and Eltron Electronics, LLC which specialized in custom biomedical instrumentation and produced his patented line of transducers used in spinal column research.

His primary hobby over the years has been initiating remodeling projects which he's never completed.  In 1984 he and Kathy designed and built a solar-enhanced, earth-bermed art studio equipped with hydronic radiate heat.  He also enjoys working in the garden, finishing those remodeling projects, and doting on his granddaughter who is a third-generation BBH honor student.
