Biography for Julie Sanco
Upon graduation Julie attended Bowling Green University where she earned her B.S. in Education. She then was awarded her M.S. in Education at Wayne State University and served as a teacher of art, debate, and speech until she retired in 2000. Now she lives in and has a studio in Leland, Michigan, and winters in San Miguel D'Allende, Mexico, in an artists community and world heritage site. She is involved in volunteer work, sports, and politics; and she loves to travel. Her stamp collection. which began at the age of ten, was the impetus to travel the world; and she has done that. She has lived a year in Hawaii and Tahiti, has ridden a camel in the Australian Outback, has caught a piranha on the Amazon, has run a dog sled in Alaska, and has visited such fine museums as The Hermitage, The Louvre, and The Prado. She has also had her picture taken with two presidents. Julie is active in her community. She is in the women's civic club; serves as president of the Lamplighters; belongs to the Land (Leelanau) Conservancy, takes part in old art building projects, aids in wildflower rescue with the garden club, and is a member of the Leland Yacht Club and the Leland Country Club. Her hobbies include traveling, art activities/shows/fundraisers, a book club, and sports such as tennis, golf, volleyball, and biking. |
